Lighting a New Landmark: Guangzhou’s Central Axis Park
A newly opened public space in Guangzhou, Central Axis Park blends architecture, landscape and immersive lighting to create a unique urban experience. Designed as a place to gather, explore and unwind, the park brings together water, structure and light in a way that transforms throughout the day and into the night.
The park is organized into several distinct zones, each offering a different experience. A reflective water plaza forms the centerpiece, while surrounding areas transition between open public space, performance zones and recreational areas. Carefully designed elevation changes create natural gathering points for events, small performances and everyday use.
At the heart of the space are two sculptural, umbrella-like lighting installations positioned on either side of the main steps, serving as the visual signature of the park.
After dark, these structures come to life. Soft illumination and color transitions give them an almost organic presence – like glowing forms emerging from the landscape, drawing visitors in and transforming the atmosphere of the park.
Integrated lighting, mist and laser systems work together to create layered visual effects, adding depth and movement to the installations and enhancing the sense of immersion.
ENTTEC provided a complete lighting control system for these iconic installations.
At the core of the system is an S-PLAY SP1 smart show controller, managing multiple elements including architectural lighting, lasers and integrated effects.
The installation is designed to evolve over time, with different effects triggered throughout the evening—from subtle color transitions to coordinated sequences involving lasers and atmospheric elements. S-PLAY enables this layered control through an intuitive web interface, making it easy to schedule, adjust and manage content on-site.
Lighting effects were created and mapped using ELM (ENTTEC LED Mapper), allowing precise control and seamless integration across all visual elements.
This project showcases how thoughtful lighting design can elevate public spaces: turning everyday environments into dynamic, engaging experiences for visitors.
