How do I install an older version of DMXIS on OS X?

If you have installed say DMXIS 1.0.4, OS X will not let you install an older version such as 1.0.3. First, you need to do the following: If you have OS X 10.4/10.5: - Open a Finder window - Navigate to /Library/Receipts - Delete "install.pkg" OR if you have OS X 10.6: - Open Terminal (under Applications/Utilities) - type "sudo pkgutil --forget com.enttec.dmxis" - Enter your admin password when prompted You should now be able to run the older DMXIS 1.0.3 installer successfully.

Trouble shooting the OPEN DMX USB

Problem:

I'm having problems with my Open DMX USB

Solution:

This guide will help you troubleshoot any problems with the OPEN DMX USB

Disconnect the OPEN DMX USB and reboot your computer.
Do not start any programs, and go to step 1

1-Plug in theOpen DMX USB.

2- Please open the windows device manager and check that you have item 1 as shown in the image below

3-If items 1 is not identical on your system please install the D2XX driver
http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/CDM/CDM20600.exe

4-If item 1 has a yellow exclamation mark after installing the driver, you will need to force a driver install.
Left click item 1 and select "Update Driver" and follow the screen shots below, the important settings have been highlighted in RED

5-If your device manager now looks like the one above for section 1, the OPEN DMX USB is now connected and configured correctly.If you still have problems, please check the software you are using.

6-If you still have the yellow exclamation marks or the item 1 do not appear in your device manager,
please change/swap the USB cable, USB Port. You can also try on another computer

7-After trying item 6 if the device still does not appear, please open a support ticket

Problem:

My lighting fixture does not appear in the DMXIS fixture library. How do I add it?

Solution:

Solution 1 - submit a support ticket and wait for the next library update

If you don't want to create a new fixture yourself, and it isn't urgent, you can submit a new support ticket (emailing support@enttec.com works the same way) and we'll add it to our list of requests. We won't get to all of them in time for a regular update necessarily, but we'll be prioritizing those which seem popular and filling in where time allows with the unusual items. Please include an online link to the user manual for the fixture, or attach a scan of the DMX table from the printed manual.

Solution 2 - write a new fixture file

Note: fixture files are UNIX format text files! Some Windows editors (such as Notepad) are not suitable for fixture editing, as thay always save in DOS format. We use the excellent Crimson Editor for creating our fixture files on Windows)

To add a new fixture to DMXIS, you simply need to create a new file in the appropriate folder...

Windows: C:/Program Files/ENTTEC/DMXIS/DmxLibrary/
OSX : /Library/Application Support/ENTTEC/DMXIS/DmxLibrary/

The DmxLibrary folder contains a number of subfolders, one for each manufacturer. When you right-click on a channel slider, these subfolders appear as submenus. You can create your new fixture files in an existing manufacturer subfolder or create your own. The file contains a list of channels, and each channel has one or more ranges covering the full range 0-255. A range line consists of Type/Min/Max/Label fields. For example, here is a really simple 3 channel fixture file for a device with Pan, Tilt and Speed:

Each Channel (Pan/Tilt/Speed) contains a single range covering the full slider range 0-255. The V at the start of the range line means Variable. Variable ranges are displayed as a percentage under the DMXIS slider.

The Label field in these channels is left blank, so we only see the percentage value under the fader.

A range can also be Static. Here is a Shutter channel with simple ON/OFF states:

Note that it NEVER makes sense for a channel to contain a single static range. If you're using static, you need at least two ranges, as above. Static ranges ALWAYS need a Label too.

Many manufacturers like to cram loads of features into one channel. DMXIS can handle this by mixing Variable & Static ranges. For example, here is a simple Gobo channel with static Closed,Circle,Tunnel,Open states in the lower range, and a variable Spin feature in the upper range:

There are two special cases to consider. The first is the Dimmer D range type:

D,0,255,

Only channels of type "dimmer" will react to the Master Level control on the DMXIS main screen.

The final special case is the Blackout B range type:

Shutter
B,0,127,OFF
S,128,255,ON

What's this for? Well, some fixtures (including most cheap scanners) do not have variable dimming. But they do usually have a "closed" gobo or an on/off shutter. If this closed/off state is marked in the fixture file with the B state, then that state will be activated when the Master Level control reaches zero.

ODE has no Lights when powered

Beware some switches allow you to disable specific ports for POE, make sure the port is enabled. Refer to the user manual of you switch. # You have a regular model PN:70305 ? Please check the power supply using a multimeter it should measure 7VDC. If this is not the case please contact ENTTEC support

Show Priorities

When programming with show priorities what is the highest and lowest priority ? The E-Streamer will compare priorities of shows withing the same group, if 2 shows within that same group have same priority they can both run simultaneously. If show A has higher (eg:10) priority than show B (eg:1) show B will stop when show A is triggered. If show A is playing and show B is triggered, show B will be canceled and will not run.

ODE not establishing ethernet link

Problem:

The ODE can't establish an Ethernet link with my switch/hub/computer. The LINK led flashes on the ODE or switch.

Solution:

There is a manufacturing fault with some very early ODE units (2008) where 51K resistors was inserted instead of 51 Ohms
This creates a compatibility problem with between the ODE and some network devices.
Please email support@enttec.com with your serial number for a confirmation that you have an affected unit and to obtain an RMA

Here is a picture of the 4 resistors that need to be changed.

DMXIS crashes (standalone and/or plugin)

If DMXIS crashes or behaves incorrectly on your system, please check the following:

Make sure you have installed the latest official DMXIS release, since the software may have been updated since your CD was manufactured.
Make sure you have applied all the latest patches available for your operating system.
Make sure you have installed the latest drivers for any peripherals, especially your sound cards & MIDI interfaces.
If you have a problem with the DMXIS VST/AU plugin running in a host program, make sure you have installed the latest version of the host application.

Specific notes: DMXIS is not compatible with older versions of the Yamaha Studio Manager MIDI Driver. Please make sure you are using the latest drivers available here.

DMXIS plugin channels 15/16 not visible in Ableton Live

Problem: When using DMXIS Audio Unit within Ableton Live, channels 15/16 are not available (as shown in the tutorial video at http://www.enttec.com/tutorials/dmxis/albeton.html)

Solution: Use the DMXIS VST plugin, instead of the Audio Unit.

Problems getting Open DMX USB to work

Problem:

I have a Open DMX USB connected but no programs find it, windows has detected it though.

Solution:

This problem is linked to windows installing it's own VCOM (virtual com port) drivers by default. The Open DMX USB will ONLY work with the D2XX drivers not the VCOM drivers. Drivers are already include in OSX, you will just need to plug in the interface. The next step will relate directly to the lighting/control software your are trying to use. You may need to contact the support department of that product for more instructions.

How do I route MIDI notes into DMXIS within SONAR?

In SONAR, if you want to send MIDI to an audio plug-in, you need to configure it as a synth. You do this by selecting "configure as synth" in the properties window of the SONAR plug-in manager. DMXIS will then appear in the synth section of the plug-in menu, and once opened, you will be able to select it as the destination in the output menu of any MIDI track.

How many Aleph 1 strips can I drive from a DIN-LED4PX ?

The standard DIN-LED4PX has 4 channels each able to drive 1A. The Aleph1 uses about 1A per 3 foot or 900mm length. But since you are using 3 channels for RGB that means you have a total of 3A drive capacity, so you can drive three 900mm strips. We have a special order version of the Din-LED4PX, that will do up to 5A. Keep in mind that with higher currents, comes more EMI (electromagnetic interference ) and this can be a problem without careful layout and cabling . That is why by default we only have a 1A version only. please contact sales for more information

With your first support inquiry it is important to include a full network capture using Wireshark. Wireshark is a free network monitor tool that captures all network data, you can download it form www.wireshark.org. MAC, PC and Linux versions are available. Please capture a few minutes of full network traffic when the problem occurs, save the data from wireshark and send us the CAP file it creates.

How Much current does Aleph 1 Strip take

This problem on Mac is usually caused by multiple network adaptors and/or using Parallels installed on OsX
To solve the problem please follow the following steps:

Go to System Preferences and open the Network icon
Please disable all the network adaptors that you are not currently using
And click the Settings icon to select Services Order
Move the network adaptor that ODE is connected to to the top of the list (in this example it's ethernet)
And click on Apply

After following these steps correctly, please use NMU again and click Discovery , you should see the ODE in the device list
If you still have problems, please make sure you know which network the ODE is connected to,
and that is the top one (high priority) under Network Services as shown in this article

ODE HTP Merge

Problem:

How does the ODE HTP merge work

Solution:

The ODE using firmware 1.6 and above will merge 2 (or 6 with optional plugin) Ethernet sources. The ODE will detect the sender IP and if it receives another packet on the same universe with a different IP it will merge the 2 in HTP fashion. If a 3rd source (or 7th with the plugin) is detected the oldest source is removed from the merge (FIFO). To clear the HTP merge you must power cycle the ODE, this follows DMX standard where a receiver must hold it's last state.

How do I load specific banks/presets using the DMXIS plug-in?

Problem:

Is it possible to load specific banks & presets in the plugin, regardless of the actual order of the banks/presets?

Solution:

There are several ways to load specific banks & presets: - Send standard MIDI bank & program change messages to the DMXIS plug-in. - To select a bank, send a NoteOn to MIDI channel 15. MIDI note 1 (C-1) = Bank 1, note 2 (C#-1) = Bank 2 etc. To select a preset, send a NoteOn to MIDI channel 16. - Enable VST/AU automation in your host program, and click on the bank/preset lists as your song plays. Your host will record & replay these clicks.
