CASE STUDY Terminal Design Group lights The Album Leaf:

Wiki: The Album Leaf
Michael Lee, of Terminal Design Group, was looking for a way to control 25 short sticks of linear LED "cove lighting" that were going to be on stands, scattered around the stage where The Album Leaf performs.

The Album Leaf is a post-rock musical project centered on electronic artist Jimmy Lavalle, and for this tour Jimmy will not have the luxury of a touring lighting director. So Michael has his work cut out for him, to help design a system that will look good but require negligible setup time and be triggerable by the artist himself.

Lee was aware of how media servers can map pixels and then speak to DMX devices with resulting RGB values. In fact, after one or two more legs of the tour, he plans to eventually include that capability in the rig. Meanwhile, though, he wants a DMX-based solution that the performer can trigger himself without taking him out of his musical mindset.

DMXIS came to the rescue

DMXIS came to the rescue and solved both the control puzzle and the budget crisis.

"I spent weeks researching different options and configurations before I found DMXIS" Michael said. "In a word it was perfect. It is simple and effective. I found that the interface was exactly appropriate to the situation. After 1 day of programming Jimmy was able to make edits and updates himself. I was also very impressed with the customer service. There were several additions that I requested be added to the software that would help the quality of the design. I appreciated the attention to detail paid to updating the software to meet the needs of this project."

The diagram below illustrates how the system was designed to work eventually, as the tour progresses :
