New Products: D-SPLIT & ALEPH 1

D-SPLIT IS NOW SHIPPING!!!

That's a long awaited piece of news that will be great for users of DMXIS, as well as for any budget-conscious production that needs to run DMX to their lighting fixtures.

It's got 4 outputs, all optically isolated. It's lightweight and easy on the eyes. You can stick one in your bag without sharp corners ripping the seams, and without straining a back muscle or a budget. D-SPLIT is something no lighting technician can afford to do without. What's in a Name

Some of our more careful readers may have observed that we were selling LEDs starting as early as around Halloween, but we didn't have a cool name for them yet, and they didn't go up on our website then. We wanted to wait until we had a name picked out, and had all the data about them ready to go in a nice package (download datasheet here) .

We call them the Aleph 1 Series. Aleph is the first letter in one of the older alphabets still kicking around, so it was a natural way to identify these as our first foray into light sources. It's called the Aleph 1 Series because they are 1 LED wide. Yes, we have other configurations in the pipeline already but we can't talk about them yet.

So why didn't we name them something whimsical from mythology, or pick some term out of a book of Australian wildlife?

  • If we'd called them A1, there'd be confusion about whether they were only for culinary purposes. (They're not, but restaurants and bars are a great application.)
  • Apollo has a company named after him already in the lighting industry.
  • "Alpha" relates to some fixtures by a company in Italy, we believe.
  • Australian spiders have been used.
  • Koala, dingo, kangaroo, or wallaby---none really do this new item justice, though each was given its due consideration.

The word "Aleph" conveys the sense that it's a building block. You know that it's not a complete thing unto itself, but it can be combined with other things to create practically anything. And that's where it starts to get interesting.

So, please, welcome to your bag of tricks: ALEPH STRIPS
