Did you miss us in January? We decided that with the holidays and a lot of pending projects which weren't quite ready to talk about, there was little to say until this month, so the Enttec Newsletter took an unplanned hiatus. But we're back. It may be the shortest month, but it still seems like February just flew by especially quickly! It started with Ground Hog Day and practically took off into the air from there. That's another holiday built for lighting designers to drool over, I've always thought. What a concrete lesson in how angles of light determine time of day and year. If the little critter sees his shadow, when the sun is this low in the sky (Souther Hemisphere, close your ears, I'm not talking to you yet) then surely that shadow will be distorted. It's just a matter of perspective. An exhibit at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology Gallery opened in February which obliquely references this phenomenon. (Yes, I'm addressing the Aussies now, you can pay attention again.) Multimedia Artist Kit Webster did some stunning things with a laptop and an Enttec widget , a scanner, a projector and some large white building blocks. |

While Kit was putting that together, I was in Los Angeles at Stage Lighting Super Saturday talking about RDM. That show, and a few others coming up are covered in our Enttec On The Road article this month. Speaking of RDM, we couldn't make it to the ESTA Control Protocols Plugfest in Dallas at the end of January, but our stuff was there and got some nice mentions in the press. We're providing a link to the article by Richard Cadena of PLSN. Can you fly directly anywhere you really need to go these days? When I made my trip to California, I flew by way of Dallas of course. This has been a couple of months full of significant events for aviation, you may have noticed. It's a shame the airlines can't get as much mileage out of their planes as we're now starting to see people get out of our Enttec Wings. Many customers know them as a handy way to take control of LightFactory, and one reader gave us some great feedback recently about that. Read what they said, and sound off about your views here too. Did you know that we added an Art-Net mode to the Playback Wing? OK, you knew that, so what more can we surprise you with... how about MIDI? And more... Read about a new chapter in aeronautically inspired lighting control here Maybe this doesn't bother you about airplanes, but I always want them to open up those curtains that separate the First Class cabin from where I have to sit, so I can see what the big deal is. Well, I can't promise you'll be able to recline your chair all the way back, but when we part the curtains to give you a sneak peak at LightFactory 2.0 you'll probably be on the edge of your seat anyhow! Until next month...safe travels in lighting and otherwise. Jeremy Kumin , |
